Port of Keelung West Warehouse 27 Set for Grand Opening!

Date :2023-11-17
As part of ongoing efforts to build out logistics and related support capabilities, Port of Keelung, TIPC invested NT$234 million to construct West Warehouse 27, a multifunctional single-story facility that adds 5,690m2 of new indoor storage and handling capacity to the port. Ground was broken on January 5th, 2021 and work wrapped up on April 26th of this year (2023). The operating license for the new facility was issued September 14th.

Near-term development goals for Port of Keelung focus on retooling the port’s north district for cargo and increasing the number of international cruise line homeport operations centered on Keelung, with port-city infrastructures being retooled and streamlined to attract new business investment. The structural bones of West Warehouse 27 were designed in reinforced concrete, with interior spaces crossed and supported by a resilient, bend-resistant steel framing system that gives the facility both practical and aesthetic appeal. Warehouse wall openings are optimally sized to deliver practical and economic benefits by inviting in plenty of natural light while raising the height of the interior work space by 9 meters into the warehouse canopy. The cost-saving cement facing and durable finish used on the walls give the warehouse an aesthetically crisp and modern look that is easy to clean and maintain.

Water and other pipes in the warehouse are exposed and easily accessible for maintenance and repair work. Because of the regular wear and tear wrought by vehicles, equipment and cargoes, warehouse floors are finished with a slip-resistant, hard-wearing, and easy-to-maintain-and-clean emery-aggregate coating specially selected to raise work efficiency and reduce operational costs. Overall, the entire building has been designed with streamlined practicality in mind.

West Warehouse 27 will be used to store and handle import and transshipment cargoes that have not yet completed Customs clearance procedures. The 4,530m2 of solar panels on the warehouse roof is expected to generate some 986KW of electricity to support warehouse power needs, with the excess being fed into the national power grid in support of national green energy policy priorities. Looking ahead, Port of Keelung will continue to integrate its development policies with existing infrastructures to expand and improve passenger and cargo facilities, further develop international logistics capabilities, and sharpen port competitiveness.
